The Region
Klostergut Paradies is located just four kilometres away from Schaffhausen, which besides having numerous attractions of its own, also makes an excellent starting point for excursions elsewhere. The famous Rhine Falls are definitely a must and both hikers and motorists alike will find the Randen hills to the north and undulating vineyards of the Klettgau to the south to be well worth exploring. The Klettgau, for example, is dotted with pretty villages, many of which are famed for their superb wines.

Among the most popular excursions for visitors to this area is a peaceful boat trip up the Rhine on one of the elegant motor cruisers belonging to the Schweizerische Schiffahrtsgesellschaft Untersee und Rhein. The trip from Schaffhausen to Stein am Rhein is rightly considered one of Europe’s most beautiful river trips, especially as it takes in so many historical monuments en route – including the Klostergut Paradies and the former convent of St. Katherinental.

Stein am Rhein, meanwhile, is a gem of medieval urban architecture whose gaily painted facades are bound to delight every visitor. The town is also home to two truly unique museums, namely the Klostermuseum St. Georgen and the Wohnmuseum Lindwurm. A tour of this charming little town is therefore a must for every visitor to Canton Schaffhausen.
